One Way Hires
If you wish to explore both the North and South Islands we are able to offer you a free vehicle exchange to save the cost of transporting the vehicle on the ferry. Just return your initial rental car to either Picton or Wellington, board your ferry and we will have a new rental vehicle waiting for you on the other side of Cook Strait.  We specialise in one way hires at no extra cost (minimum hire period may apply)

Big Value New Zealand Rental Terms for travel between 01-Jan-2011 and 31-Dec-2015

Cancellation charges:
The booking deposit is non refundable. For cancellations within 5 days of the pick up date, or no shows, an additional 20% of the total rental costs will be charged.

Payment Terms
An initial, non-refundable deposit will be secured at time of booking confirmation. Accepted credit cards are Visa and MasterCard.

The balance will be secured directly by the supplier on arrival.

A vehicle bond will be secured by way of a credit card imprint on arrival. Customers must have a credit card to collect their vehicle.

(Should you wish to use a debit card, this is allowed in lieu of a credit card, but the full vehicle excess amount will be pre-authorised on this card for the duration of your rental and will not be accessible until the vehicle is returned without damage and the amount released.)

Vehicle Insurance
Rental vehicle and third party insurance is included in our rates and is subject to a deductible (Excess) of $NZ 1,500.00**

Comprehensive Insurance Schedule
All rates include comprehensive insurance for the vehicle.

This covers damage to both the rental car and third party vehicles or property up to a value of NZ $1,000,000.

This insurance carries an excess (deductible) of NZ $1,500.00 which means if an accident occurs while the car is on hire you are liable for $1,500.00 or the cost of repair, whichever is the lesser amount. The excess applies to damage to the vehicle or damage caused by the vehicle.

An optional Collision Damage Waiver is available which reduces the excess to nil.

Where an accident involves two vehicles the NZ $1,500.00 excess may be refunded if we are able to establish that liability rests with the third party. This is done via our insurance company who take the case to a disputes hearing.

If liability can not be established with the third party then the hirer is responsible for the excess.

**Young Drivers
Driver's between the ages of 18 and 21 may rent our vehicles but will be subject to an increased insurance excess/liability of $2500.00. This amount cannot be waived or reduced directly with the supplier. A vehicle security deposit of the full value ($2500.00) will be secured/deducted from your nominated credit card ON YOUR ARRIVAL. All drivers must carry a full driver's license.

Insurance Exclusions
The indemnities referred to above shall not apply where the damage, injury, or loss arises when -
(a) The driver of the vehicle is under the influence of alcohol or any drug that affects his or her ability to drive the vehicle.

(b) The vehicle is in an unsafe or un-roadworthy condition that arose during the course of the hire and that caused or contributed to the damage or loss, and the Hirer or driver was aware or ought to have been aware of the unsafe or un-roadworthy condition of the vehicle.

(c) The vehicle is operated in any race, speed test, rally or contest.

(d) The vehicle is driven by any person not named in the rental agreement.

(e) The vehicle is being driven by any person who at the time when he or she drives the vehicle is disqualified from holding or has never held a drivers license appropriate for the vehicle.

(f) The vehicle is willfully or recklessly damaged by the hirer or any other person named in the agreement or driving the vehicle under the authority of the hirer, or is lost as a result of willful or reckless behaviour of the hirer or any such person.

(g) The vehicle is operated outside the term of the hire or any agreed extension of that term.

It is agreed between the owner and the hirer that section 11 of the insurance law reform act 1977 shall apply to the above exclusions as if this clause constituted a contract of insurance. The general effect of this provision is that an exclusion will not apply if the hirer proves on the balance of probability that the damage or loss was not caused or contributed to by the matters to which the exclusion refers.

Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)  (This insurance is not available to drivers under 25)
The hirer may choose to waive the insurance deductible by payment of an optional Collision Damage Waiver on all vehicles. Rates for these policies are quoted on the website through which you have booked. An imprint of your credit card number is still required with this option as security.

Drivers
New Zealand law requires that all drivers be 21 years old or over and produce a valid New Zealand, International or overseas license. We accept US, Australian, Canadian, English and European Licenses.

Goods and Services Tax (GST)
Our rates include 15% GST

Mileage Charges
Our rates include unlimited mileage.

One Way Hires
Vehicles may be hired between any two of our depots at no additional charge (Please note that minimum hire periods may apply to this facility).

Early returns
Please note, should the vehicle be returned early/or should the number of days on your confirmed reservation be reduced, no refunds will be given.

Save $$$ with our free vehicle exchange for Cook Strait crossings (minimum hire periods apply).
When crossing between the North and South Islands you may drop one vehicle at Picton or Wellington and uplift another vehicle in the other island with our Free Vehicle Exchange Program. A minimum hire period applies for this service for North to South rentals only: your hire must be 14 days or greater if you are travelling from 1 October - 31 March, and must be 10 days or greater for travel from 1 April - 30 September. South to North rentals are not subject to these minimums. If you so require, we can exchange the vehicle between islands. Booking is essential and subject to availability. To qualify for the Free Vehicle Exchange, you must pre-arrange this at the time of booking, by entering 'FREE VEHICLE EXCHANGE PLEASE' into the comments section on the booking page. Once your booking is confirmed you will be contacted by Big Value to arrange the crossing date. At this stage your ferry crossing can even be booked for you if you wish.

Airport Transfers
These are free of charge with in our normal office hours. The supplier will require your flight arrival time and number. Full details of procedures will be forwarded to you upon making a booking or available on the locations page.

24hr Emergency Service
All of our vehicles are covered by the New Zealand Automobile Association 24hr emergency assistance service for your convenience and safety.

In such a case, if you book with us at a quoted rate that is incorrect, we will notify you of any price change and give you the option to proceed or cancel. Liability

When you pick up your vehicle, you will be required to sign a rental agreement with the supplier of the vehicle. The rental agreement is between you and the supplier and we will not be liable to you or to any third party in relation to the terms of the supplier’s rental agreement or any other documentation provided to you by the supplier at the time of pick up.

While we will make reasonable efforts to ensure we are representing only reputable suppliers, we make no warranty about the fitness or suitability of any third party (supplier) product or service and will not accept responsibility for the quality or fitness of any vehicle. We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our suppliers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a supplier.

Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.

Booking information
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice. The deposit required to secure your vehicle (as shown on the secure booking page) will only be processed on your credit card when your booking is confirmed. Please note that a 1.95% credit card or debit card surcharge will be added when your payment is processed.

A booking is confirmed when you have been emailed a confirmation voucher and at this stage the deposit is processed on your card and becomes non-refundable and any cancellation fees stated in the supplier's terms apply. Upon receipt of your confirmation, please check your details carefully and notify us immediately if there are any incorrect details, as it may not be possible to make changes at a later date.

If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.

Information disclosure
In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.

Amendments
Please note that some suppliers treat an amendment as a new booking and apply the rate current at the time the amendment is made to recalculate the entire booking amount (not just the days changed). If the rental period is increased, an additional deposit may be required. If the rental period is shortened which results in a reduction of the rental charges, the deposit amount will remain unchanged, and the difference between the original and revised deposit is forfeited (it cannot be used towards remaining rental charges). To request a change to a confirmed booking, please use the alterations request link on your confirmation. Any alterations are subject to availability and the approval of the supplier. In addition to the alteration policy of the supplier stated in their terms, the following charges will apply:
Car rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 25.00
To add or remove extras to/from a confirmed booking: 10.00
The alteration fee will not be charged if your alteration request is not possible.

Vehicle Capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.

Refund Policy
We are committed to providing a quality service and aim for complete customer satisfaction. In the event of cancellation, any refunds or penalties are detailed in the terms and conditions of your selected vehicle that you are asked to read and accept at time of booking. In the event you are unsatisfied with our service, please contact us within 48 hours of placing your booking or request and we will work to resolve any issues and determine if compensation is due. In the event you have completed your rental and are unhappy with your vehicle, we are happy to assist you in seeking compensation from the operator of the vehicle.

The vehicle keys can be deposited through the hole in the entrance doorway of our office. There is a $10 parking charge for this service.

Once in the public car park please make your way across the first two zebra crossings. After the second zebra crossing please follow the foot path to your  Cross over the next zebra crossing and make your way along this footpath.
Your vehicle will be located along this part of the car park. (car details in email)
Please take the parking ticket back to the pay station and pay for your parking.  (This must be done prior to exit)
Outside operating hours return - 17.00pm- 08.00am
After operating hours return of the vehicle must be arranged prior to the date of return.  A fee of NZ$30.00 is applicable for this service.

Instructions for drop off

Please enter the Public Car Park using the first entrance on your right.
Park your vehicle down the first row to your right. (see map) If there is no space down this row then please park in an alternative row in this area of the car park.
Leave the parking ticket in the car, lock the car and hide (sandwich) the key behind the front number plate.
Please note that a parking fee of $30 is associated with this arrangement
 
Please do not park in any of the 20 minute parks as parking time limits are strictly enforced

Wellington Airport depot

Wellington Airport is a serviced non depot location.

 

Please ensure that you have provided us with your flight arrival details. Big Value is operated by Omega Rental Cars.

Our shuttle service hours 07.30am - 17.00pm
Once you are ready for collection, please call our Wellington Airport freephone number 0800 66 77 22 and a representative will be sent to collect you from the baggage claim area (next to the Cargo Coffee shop) situated on the ground floor. You will then be taken to our Wellington Airport Depot 5 minutes away where you will complete the documentation and uplift your vehicle.
Our Wellington Airport Depot is located at 5 Tauhinu Road, Miramar, Wellington. In case of any difficulties or should you require collecting from your accommodation please call our on freephone number 0800 66 77 22.
 
Outside operating hours collection 16.45pm – 07.29am
Should your arrival be outside of our shuttle service hours arrangements will need to be made prior to your arrival. A pre signed rental contract will need to be completed and returned to us. Please contact us during operating hours by e-mail at wellingtonairport@omegarentals.com to make the necessary arrangements. You will then be advised of the after hours collection procedure. A NZ$30.00 Airport parking fee is applicable.
 
Outside operating hours return – 16.59pm – 07.29am
After operating hours return of the vehicle must be arranged prior to the date of return.  A fee of NZ$30.00 is applicable for this service.
